A Court Hearing After Receiving Corrupt Payment From Pest Control In Sydney

Kylie Vernon, a senior public servant, informed a Sydney court that she was paid a total of $30,000 in cash at the at the Observer Hotel, Paradiso Café in The Rocks, and at her office.

Ms. Vernon is for hiring cleaning and pest control in Sydney for the Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and The Rocks. She made a daring confession when she stood up on Tuesday at the NSW Supreme Court, as revealed by Fairfax Media.

One of the contracts that concerned them the most was a $5-million per year cleaning contract granted to Arcadia Pacific Group to operate at the Darling Harbour. They also admitted that Ms. Vernon had allowed payments from many gardening companies but only two were able to work.

Ms. Vernon claimed receiving $30,000 in corrupt payments from Amazon Pest Control owner Ted Lakis. She added that Arcadia Pacific Group operated by Mr. Lakis’s father-in-law Steve Tassis, gave her $200,000 for quite some time.

Both companies had been requested to show up on why their eligibility to government approved suppliers should not be revoked.

Last Thursday, Acting Justice Peter Young announced his judgment on the civil dispute between Michael Lardis and Mr. Lakis. Each of them are incriminated for financial misconduct in their pest control in Sydney company, Amazon Pest Control.

Last 2015, Ms. Vernon made a sworn statement on behalf of Mr. Lardis. The proof, which was received by the judge, was that on one occasion when Mr. Lardis went to the toilet, his business partner Mr. Lakis gave her an envelope containing $10,000. There was no evidence on the other dates when the total amount of $30,000 was given.

However, in her written proof, Ms. Vernon said the contracts were already awarded before possible corrupt payments were made.

Though there were sworn statements claiming her corruption nearly a year ago, it seems like Ms. Vernon informed no one at the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.

An investigation to the bribery allegations and relevant SHFA contracts is ongoing and Ms. Vernon has been penalized while a review is under its way. The alleged hiring of pest control in Sydney has been questioned.

However, Ms. Vernon,as of this time, was hard to reach.

Even in India, the industry of paint is in an obvious boom. The Berger Paints just recently announced that it is planning two new production facilities in North East India. They are currently at the stage of contemplating to build two new units in Assam. One unit will be under Berger while the other will be under the British Paints brand. This news was confirmed by the Berger chairman who is Kuldip Singh Dhingra.

The chairman further announced that they will place the proposal and inform the board of directors immediately. The managing director of Berger Paints further gave concrete figures. According to Abhijit Roy, the total land area is expected to be about 12 acres while the investment in the initial phase of the project is expected to be in the amount of Rs 60 crore.

The Berger chairman also told media that the company had also received invitations from Russia to build another plant. He further said that the company already had an existing plant in Russia. They were offered with land at a very competitive and tempting offer. The company will launch another production plant in the country when there is already enough volume.

How A Fire Can Start From A Washing Machine

The recent fires in Sydney have brought to the forefront the importance of electrical and appliance repair. Surprisingly, some of the appliances that catch fire are faulty washing machines and tumble dryers not TV’s or flat irons. There are also brands that are more prone to catching fire than others and manufacturers are dragging their feet in pulling out their products from the market. It is crucial for products that are dangerous to be pulled out as quickly as possible and not wait for a fire to occur.

Last May, two more homes caught fire in NSW due to faulty Samsung washing machines. More than 83,000 of these washing machines are still being used in Australia. Fire & Rescue NSW confirmed a fire on Sainsbury Street in Saint Mary’s but it was extinguished by tradespeople who were working on the building. Another fire occurred on William Street in Granville and was put out by firefighters.
According to Fire & Rescue NSW Investigator Michael Forbes, anyone with a Samsung top loader washing should have their appliance checked as a matter of priority.

These products are often left unattended when in use and the risks to people and property are high if the appliance fails. If smoke or smell comes out of the washing machine, turn it off at the power point and call for electrical and appliance repair. If a fire does occur, stay out and call Triple Zero (000).
There have been 181 incidents nationwide as a result of faulty Samsung washing machines. According to Samsung the reasons were over-heating, smoking or catching fire. The fires in NSW brought the number of total fires caused by the faulty machines to 20 since the April recall.

Samsung has confirmed that there are 83,686 machines out of nearly 150,000 that were sold in Australia that have not yet been serviced to prevent the water leakage fault that is the cause of the fires. Samsung is providing free in-home service to fix the issue but Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is concerned about the low take-up of Samsung’s repair services. ACCC is also considering if the results of the national recall are adequate.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest won the Housing Association of the Year award.

From the affordable sector, companies like Parkhead Housing Association, Sanctuary Scotland, and Places for People were some of the awardees.

The awards that had been given are said to support a small charity called ‘It’s Good 2 Give’. The said property is a place to accommodate young cancer patients with their families for short stay visits.

More Restoration Work Planned By The Friends Of Waterloo Village Group

Byram, New Jersey – April 24, 2015 – The Friends of Waterloo Village have accomplished much in the past year. They have completed many projects that would benefit their historical community and their accomplishments should rightfully be celebrated. This year, they plant to more restoration work to help bring back the former glory of the historical village. Roof restoration will be a top priority but they will also be doing other restoration work. This decision came during the group’s annual meeting last Thursday at the village’s newly restored Mule Barn building.

The club has about 70 paid individual members but even with a number of members, they wouldn’t be able to raise the funds on their own. That is why they have collaborated with the Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Parks and Forestry every year.

According to them, they were able to raise about $26,000 which was used for the restoration of the Mule Barn.

Earl Riley, Board of Trustees vice Chair, said that their goal is to restore the historical village as much as they can but that they are currently focusing on the roofs. He says that this important to save the other building because without effective roofing, the buildings will get wet and deteriorate which would make them a much difficult restoration job.

Presently, they were able to replace the roofs of the grist mill, the blacksmith shop and the mule barn but there is still a lot of work that needs to get done. This would include painting, replacement and repairing jobs.
The Friends group has a lot of fundraiser events but the event that brings in the most funds is Harvest Moon Festival which was able to raise $20,000 last year.

According to them, it is easier to get funds from the state when you tell them that you are a Friends group that was able to raise about $26,000. If they were able to make that much, it is like shaming the state into helping them and covering the rest of the funds.

As of now, the Friends of Waterloo Village are still looking for new members to help them in their purpose.
